German journalist and transfer expert Christian Falk has said Chelsea are the only team who could pay Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price for Kai Havertz.

The 21-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in Europe at the moment, particularly after his impressive displays in Bundesliga this season.

Havertz ended the season as Leverkusen’s top scorer with 12 goals and also bagged six assists from just 30 league appearances.

SportBild’s head of football Falk who has been covering stories surrounding Havertz’s future claimed Chelsea are the way ahead of other competitors in terms of spending power to sign the versatile midfielder.

He told Bleacher Report’s Football Ranks podcast: “In January, the agents informed Leverkusen about the clubs which are interested in Kai, and there was seven.

“If you will see the road, it was Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and at the end of this road, there was Chelsea.

“Now, Chelsea are ahead in this poker, because the other clubs can’t pay so much money at the moment.

“Chelsea showed with Werner that they can do that.”

Falk also said Bayern Munich and Barcelona won’t pay the reported €90-100million fee, while Real Madrid are pushing for a potential swap deal.

“If one of the English clubs would like to have him and they pay it, so [it’d be] good,” he added.

About the possibility of Havertz’s departure this summer, Falk rated it at nine [out of ten] while about Chelsea’s chance of signing the Germany international, he rated it at seven.

An earlier report from the BBC said Havertz wants to leave this summer, with Chelsea and Real Madrid interested.

The report added that despite his desire to play in the Champions League next season, it wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for any move.
