Blues defender Thiago Silva said Brazil teammate and reported Chelsea target Marquinhos is one of the top three defenders in the world.

According to a recent report by the Mirror, Thomas Tuchel might be interested in bringing the Marquinhos to Chelsea this summer — and it is easy to see why.

Back in October, Tuchel himself described the 27-year-old as “the heart and soul” of his PSG team (via Ligue 1’s official website).

Tuchel certainly saw Marquinhos more than just a defender, as he often deployed the former Roma star in midfield.

But not only Tuchel, Silva seems to enjoy his defensive partnership with Marquinhos.

Marquinhos one of world’s top three defenders, says Silva

While they do not play together any more at club level, they are still Brazil’s first-choice centre-back pairing.

“Marquinhos? I played with him for seven years, and he taught me a lot, even though he was younger than I am!,” Silva said about his fellow countryman as reported by Le Parisien.

“He seems to be my age. He is very intelligent.

“He is a player who is in the top three defenders in the world, he should be in the FIFA [team of the year].

“He does things that players of his age don’t usually do.”

To be fair, it seems very unlikely that PSG would even consider selling Marquinhos any time soon.

And unlike, let’s say, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane whom Chelsea have also been linked with, Marquinhos still has plenty of years left in is contract with PSG (until 2024).

Even if he found a reunion with Tuchel and Silva at Stamford Bridge attractive, Chelsea would likely have a hard time negotiating with PSG.

Similar to Chelsea, PSG seem to be one of the very few clubs who are not facing any significant financial issues despite the pandemic situation, considering their recent activities in the transfer market.
