Todd Boehly has now just green lighted Mauricio Pochettino to make another signing at Chelsea

Chelsea have now made it known to Mauricio Pochettino that he can bring in an experienced striker next year.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are interested in Brentford’s Ivan Toney and have given Mauricio Pochettino the green light to recruit a centre-forward of his experience.

Toney is 27 years of age and, of course, Premier League-proven.

Last season, the England international scored 20 goals in 33 top-flight appearances to help Brentford finish in ninth place and above their west London rivals Chelsea.

It would not be a surprise, then, if Toney was the striker recommended to co-owner Todd Boehly.

Mauricio Pochettino should move for an experienced striker

If Pochettino really is allowed to bring in a proven centre-forward in the new year, then he should. It could be the thing that helps take Chelsea back to the top.

They have Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja, two young strikers with a lot of potential.

The former scored in the Blues’ recent 4-1 win against Burnley, while the latter managed to net in the 2-0 victory over west London rivals Fulham prior.

However, if Chelsea are going to compete against Manchester City, for example, you cannot help but feel that they are going to need their own Erling Haaland, or at least someone who can guarantee them 20 goals in a season.

That is a lot of pressure to put on either Jackson or Broja, who are still trying to prove themselves at this level. So we think signing someone like Toney in January or next summer makes a lot of sense.
