Tottenham could make lowball offer for 23-year-old Chelsea player soon

One Premier League club may try test the waters with a lowball offer for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher at the end of the transfer window.

That is what journalist Paul Brown believes.

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Conor Gallagher, and Brown has told GiveMeSport that he would not be surprised if the club tried to lowball their London rivals just before the transfer market shuts.

Journalist Ben Jacobs recently claimed that Chelsea want £60m for Gallagher.

However, with the Englishman out of contract in 2025, it is really hard to imagine anyone going near that price.

Brown is not ruling out Tottenham trying to sign Gallagher from Chelsea on the cheap.

On the 23-year-old, he said: “So sources at Tottenham were very quick to come out and deny that any talks have taken place between the clubs for Conor Gallagher, but we do know that the club like Gallagher a lot.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Daniel Levy tries a lowball offer towards the end of the window just to test Chelsea’s resolve, because Chelsea are asking [for] quite a lot of money for Conor Gallagher, and I don’t think Spurs are going to spend that kind of money on anyone this month.”

Right now, Chelsea do not have to accept whatever offer comes their way for Gallagher. It would not make sense, largely because he has been such a key player for Mauricio Pochettino this season.

The England international has made just over 25 appearances under the Argentine and captained the Blues on multiple occasions.

His contract also does not expire until 2025, meaning Chelsea will have another chance to sell him this summer.

If Tottenham come in with a small offer, then, the Blues should ignore it. The end of the season, however, could be a different story if Gallagher has not put pen to paper on a contract extension by then. They will have no option but to consider offers that arrive for the midfielder to avoid the risk of losing him for nothing next year.
