Tottenham may be interested in signing Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window.

That is according to a report from TEAMtalk.

They explain that Spurs are now scouting the market to find a new centre-back for when the window opens in the New Year.

It is understood that Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, 24, is one of the players mentioned as a potential January target.

The report claims that the Blues centre-half is viewed as more attainable for Spurs than Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, who’s another one on their defensive shortlist.

January interest

In fairness, Spurs are not the first club to be linked with Chalobah ahead of the New Year.

TEAMtalk claimed last month that Manchester United, Bayen Munich and Borussia Dortmund are all interested in signing Chalobah. They added that the English centre-back has been told by the club he’s not in the plans moving forward Stamford Bridge, and they’ll want around £45million for his sale.

There’s certainly room in the Spurs squad for Chalobah to go in and make a big difference, but Chelsea fans wouldn’t enjoy watching their player thrive at a close rival.

Trevoh Chalobah decline

Described as “fantastic” by Thomas Tuchel in 2021 (BBC), Chalobah’s done very little wrong during this period where he’s now facing a potential exit.

He’s not kicked a ball during this 2023/24 season yet under Mauricio Pochettino due to injury.

It’s worth remembering that he did wear the captain’s armband for periods of pre-season in the summer, but something has gone wrong to see him slip down the pecking order.

We wouldn’t mind him competing for a starting position at the Bridge when fit. We do concede there’s a lot of top quality defenders in the squad right now, though. It sounds like Chalobah will be one of the unlucky ones to be let go.
