Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana are surely asking questions about their role at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea open talks to sign Nicolas Jackson.

It was the Evening Standard who claimed that the Senegal international is being targeted by the Blues.

So, why should this concern Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it is no secret that Chelsea need a proper No.9 to solve the goalscoring issues at Stamford Bridge.

Therefore, Broja and Fofana surely understand links to established frontmen such as Victor Osimhen and Dusan Vlahovic.

However, the duo may not be so content about the Jackson rumour.

The Villarreal No.15 is just 21 years of age, which is the same as Broja and one year older than Fofana.

Therefore, the Albania international and the Ivory Coast international may wonder where their playing time will come next season if someone of a similar age and reputation in Jackson arrives at Stamford Bridge.

To build on that, Mauricio Pochettino will not even have European football on the schedule to offer minutes to his fringe players, meaning that Broja, Fofana and Jackson will all have to scrap for action in the domestic cups, with Chelsea still expected to sign a standout No.9 to lead them in the Premier League.

Chelsea must loan Broja or Fofana if Jackson arrives

If Chelsea successfully negotiate a deal for Jackson with Villarreal, then the Blues simply have to loan out Broja or Fofana.

The pair are still young and need minutes to aid their development, which has already been stunted by the presence of Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Joao Felix.

Christopher Nkunku is also arriving from RB Leipzig soon, so competition for places in the frontline will only become more fierce.

With Jackson, Osimhen and Vlahovic in Chelsea’s sights, Broja and Fofana need to be asking Pochettino questions about where their playing time will come from.
