Chelsea have become experts over the years when it comes to using the loan system.

The Blues have several individuals in their current first-team squad that previously had loan spells away. On top of that, they’ve managed to sell on youngsters for big profits after successful loans.

Omari Hutchinson, Lewis Hall and Ian Maatsen are Chelsea youngsters who’ve already been sold on this summer. Conor Gallagher is strongly tipped in the media to be leaving as well to join Atletico Madrid, too. Andy Townsend is disappointed by Gallagher’s imminent Chelsea exit, as quoted by talkSPORT.

Now, another Chelsea youngster is linked with a possible transfer exit during this summer window.

Scottish clubs make contact for Leo Castledine

According to Football Scotland, Rangers and Aberdeen are both interested in signing Chelsea youngster Leo Castledine this summer.

It is explained that Scottish giants Rangers have contacted Chelsea about the 18-year-old prospect as they try to take him to Ibrox on a season-long loan. Apparently, one sticking point is that they’re hoping to agree a loan deal with an option to buy.

The report says that Aberdeen have also made their interest known and they’d be willing to agree a more straightforward loan.

In addition, unnamed clubs in the second tier of England also want the Blues teenager.

This comes after journalist Nizaar Kinsella reported via X in July that Castledine is available to leave Chelsea on his first loan.

Chelsea should only allow loan exit

At the age of 18, Castledine has spent the last season as a key player for Chelsea’s Under-21s. Therefore, a loan move in the upcoming season makes perfect sense, but it definitely shouldn’t include any kind of buying clause.

The English attacking midfielder has made one senior appearance Chelsea colours, but that’s his only first-team exposure to date.

He’s ready for a loan deal fresh off 10 goals and nine assists in 18 Premier League 2 matches last season.

Speaking via X back in January after his senior debut, John Terry insisted Chelsea fans will love Castledine. Hopefully, a successful loan move, whether that’s in Scotland or elsewhere, can push him closer to the Blues first team.
