His current manager Eddie Howe has been one of his biggest fans, describing him earlier this season as ‘outstanding’.

Romano has claimed that Chelsea are one of the English clubs interested in a deal, however Newcastle are hopeful that their upcoming attempts to extend his contract at St. James’ Park will see him commit his future to them.

Chelsea still trying Guimaraes

He said: “The reality is the Newcastle board want to offer Bruno a new contract with increased salary, because they know that many top clubs are eying Bruno Guimaraes.

“We have rumours of Chelsea, but there are other clubs in England that are wanting to attack for Bruno. At the moment, Newcastle feel confident. They want to offer him a new deal. They want Bruno to be one of the faces of the project. They know that he’s happy. So they will offer him a new contract.”

Chelsea will certainly need to invest in their midfield if things go as expected in regards to their current crop.

N’golo Kante and Jorginho both currently have contracts that expire at the end of this season. So far, there have been no breakthroughs for either player to remain at the club.

With the Frenchman’s injury record in recent seasons leaving him an unreliable source of minutes in midfield, it could be best for the team to not be relying on him for much longer.
