Reports have claimed that Todd Boehly is attempting to pull off the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

The Brazilian has proven himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since making the switch in January.

The transfer has been the catalyst for Eddie Howe’s side becoming one of the best teams of 2022, with them currently sitting in fourth in the Premier League.

The Blues are almost certainly going to need to enter the market in the summer to strengthen their midfield areas.

N’golo Kante and Jorginho both have contracts which expire at the end of the season. Up to now, the club are no closer to extending either deal.

There have been reports that they are interested in adding big-name pair Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham to their ranks. These will of course be met by outstanding competition.

Boehly attempting Guimaraes signing

However, signing Guimaraes could be the most difficult coup of the lot.

While Rice and Bellingham play for sides that have an obvious ceiling below their own, the speed of Newcastle’s rise to where they are in the table since their new owners took over gives an indication they could be on their way to something special.

The Brazilian is integral to what the Magpies are doing right now, and he is drawing praise from a number of figures in the game.

Despite the difficulty, he would no doubt be an outstanding addition to Graham Potter’s playing staff.

Potter will no doubt be hopeful that Boehly backs him with a transfer window in the future similar to his first in charge of the club.

However, he will be relying on better backing in the midfield area, with deadline day signing Denis Zakaria not yet even appearing for the club.
