What Chelsea must do to offload Raheem Sterling to Arsenal

Chelsea could sell Raheem Sterling to Arsenal before the transfer window closes, but the Blues will have to agree to something first.

Raheem Sterling is not training with the Chelsea senior squad right now, with the winger not part of Enzo Maresca‘s plans.

He has been linked with a move to Manchester United, with Sterling having no problems with joining United.

However, Arsenal also appear to be a possible destination for the 29-year-old now, though a deal is far from simple.

Raheem Sterling keen to join Arsenal

As well as United, Sterling also seems to be open to joining Arsenal before tonight’s transfer deadline.

According to The Independent, the £50m England international would be keen on a move to the Emirates. However, there is one problem.

The same outlet claims that Chelsea would have to settle part of his contract and wages in order for a transfer to go through.

Despite not being wanted by Maresca, there is no guarantee that Sterling will leave Chelsea before the end of the day.

Arsenal would be a great move for Raheem Sterling

A switch to Arsenal would be perfect for Sterling. He would get to stay in London, reunite with Mikel Arteta and, from his perspective, upgrade.

Arsenal have been miles ahead of Chelsea these last couple of seasons, competing for the Premier League title and qualifying for the Champions League.

From Chelsea’s perspective, though, they will have no issue with Sterling joining their London rivals. While the Blues are not flying right now, they will argue that Sterling has underperformed and has contributed to the team’s recent struggles.

In his two years at the club, he has scored 14 goals in the Premier League. A forward of his quality, Chelsea probably would have been expecting that in one season.

A transfer to Arsenal could work for everyone, though a lot needs to happen if Sterling is to leave Stamford Bridge before tonight’s transfer deadline.
