Whether Raheem Sterling would leave Chelsea for Man United

Chelsea could try to offload Raheem Sterling to Manchester United before the transfer window closes on Friday.

Raheem Sterling is not part of Enzo Maresca‘s first team and is currently being linked with a move to United.

Paul Merson thinks Maresca should retain Sterling, but there does not appear to be any room for him at Chelsea.

The Blues recently signed Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid and Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers, effectively ending Sterling’s Chelsea career.

Raheem Sterling’s stance on joining Man United

As well as Chelsea, Sterling has also played for Manchester City and Liverpool, United’s two biggest rivals.

Even so, it looks like the winger has no problem with moving to Old Trafford before the transfer deadline later this week.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Sterling is open to joining United, who could watch Jadon Sancho head in the opposite direction.

A report from The Telegraph claims that Chelsea are interested in doing a swap deal that would see Sterling move to Old Trafford and Sancho arrive at Stamford Bridge.

Pedro Neto could become Chelsea’s new first-choice left winger

Sterling was Chelsea’s main option for the left flank last season, with the 29-year-old making 43 appearances under former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

However, Neto could become the first choice there now. He played there in Chelsea’s 6-2 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday and managed to set up Joao Felix from that position.

He is quite flexible, with Maresca already highlighting Neto’s versatility, so there is always the possibility of the Portuguese playing on the right.

But after his hat-trick at Molineux, that is likely to remain Noni Madueke’s spot for the time being. It does not change much for Sterling, though. Again, Neto’s arrival has pushed him towards the exit door.

It would be a very big surprise if the England international was still a Chelsea player after Friday. It will now be interesting to see whether United actually do offer him an escape route out of west London.
