Chelsea fans will be in some shock on Friday because there’s breaking transfer speculation that suggests they’re about to make a marquee signing.

There’s already been several incomings at Stamford Bridge during a busy summer transfer window, but a Premier League star is apparently on his way.

According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins via X on Friday afternoon, Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto is set to join Chelsea.

The 24-year-old winger, who’s been at Molineux Stadium since 2019, is expected to make a high-profile switch to West London.

What Pep Guardiola said about Pedro Neto

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has one of the greatest football brains in the business, so it’s always worthwhile hearing his verdict on players.

Interestingly, Guardiola was full of very high praise for Chelsea target Neto following a performance for Wolves back in March 2021.

He said via Man City’s official website: “Neto is an incredible player and Adama (Traore) as well. This team, when you let them run, they kill you. The pace, with (Ruben) Semedo from behind, but especially from Adama and Neto.”

Neto’s had injury problems throughout his career so far, which is sure to frighten Chelsea supporters given their record in that department.

However, there must be some real encouragement when you’re labelled “incredible” by Guardiola.

What Conor Coady said about Pedro Neto

Similar to above, Conor Coady has previously waxed lyrical about Neto, this time it’s from the perspective of being a teammate at Wolves.

When speaking about Neto on The Greatest Game podcast back in May 2021, Coady said: “Really good. He’s class. You forget he’s 21, I look at him as a 28-year-old. He doesn’t look that age… He’s an incredible player mate, absolutely incredible.”

Should Chelsea fans be excited?

If Neto stays fit and adapts quickly to life as a Chelsea player, this could be the signing of the summer.

The dynamic left-footed attacker, who’s effective off both wings, has proven in the past he’s capable of ripping Premier League defences apart.

If you’re a Blues winger such as Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling or Noni Madueke, this is the sort of transfer that should alarm you.

There’s only a certain level of excitement Chelsea supporters can enjoy when the club is recruiting so wildly, but this does feel like it could be the best of the bunch.
