Whether Raheem Sterling will hand in a transfer request at Chelsea this summer

Raheem Sterling’s future at Chelsea is in serious doubt right now after his omission from his side’s 2-0 defeat against Manchester City over the weekend.

Raheem Sterling was left out of Chelsea‘s matchday squad completely, resulting in his camp releasing a statement asking for clarity on his future.

Gary Lineker has given his thoughts about Sterling, suggesting that the winger may be looking for a way out of Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes.

And with Joao Felix set to arrive at Chelsea, a transfer may be necessary for Sterling if he wants regular game time this season.

Raheem Sterling’s current stance on transfer away from Chelsea

At present, Enzo Maresca has a lot of options for the left flank, including Christopher Nkunku and Pedro Neto.

It was Nkunku who started on the left in Chelsea’s Premier League opener against City, while Neto replaced him in the second half.

There is also Mykhailo Mudryk, who is a more natural option than Nkunku for the position, while Felix could also be used out wide if he arrives at Stamford Bridge as expected.

Nevertheless, according to talkSPORT, Sterling will not hand in a transfer request before the end of the month, suggesting that the 29-year-old is prepared to remain in west London despite all of the competition he faces for a spot in the new Chelsea manager‘s starting XI.

Federico Chiesa unlikely to replace Raheem Sterling at Chelsea

If Sterling does end up leaving Chelsea this summer, the club will probably not sign a replacement for him.

Chelsea have been linked with Juventus’ Federico Chiesa during this transfer window. In fact, it has been claimed that Chelsea have spoken to Chiesa’s representative.

However, with Felix coming in and the likes of Neto and Mudryk already at the club, it is hard to imagine the Blues bringing in another attacker.

There is no guarantee either that Sterling will leave. The £50m England international does not seem desperate to depart despite his situation and is on huge wages, which could make it difficult for Chelsea to find a buyer.
