Romelu Lukaku is desperate to leave Chelsea for Inter Milan – but a FIFA ruling has shed light on why the Blues are reluctant to agree another loan exit.

It was the Evening Standard who shared details on the situation.

So, what is the latest on Romelu Lukaku at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Belgian wants to go back to Inter Milan.

However, the Italian giants are only willing to take Lukaku on another season-long loan for the 2023/24 campaign with an obligation for them to buy him permanently next summer.

While that would see Chelsea offload the 30-year-old for good, the Blues are reluctant to sanction another loan due to FIFA rules.

The Evening Standard explain how FIFA have imposed new rules which state that clubs can only have a maximum of seven players out on loan.

It is said that Chelsea ideally want to avoid using these spots on senior players such as Lukaku, and would prefer to maximise development loans for younger options such as Andrey Santos.

Carney Chukwuemeka, David Datro Fofana, Gabriel Slonina, Omari Hutchinson and Tino Anjorin are also mentioned as young talents who could be loaned out by Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea should not loan Lukaku out

In our view, Chelsea are right to be against loaning Lukaku out again.

Seven loan spots really isn’t many given the amount of exceptional talent Chelsea have in their ranks, so they should be reserved for the aforementioned gems, as well as prospects like Cesare Casadei.

If Inter Milan are willing to buy Lukaku permanently next summer, then the Italian giants should be able to find the funds needed to do it now – especially as Chelsea only want £34m for the striker, according to the Mirror.

In truth, it would even be better for Chelsea to accept a permanent exit for Lukaku now and tell Inter Milan they can pay next summer, rather than sanction another loan which could harm the development of a young talent.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Lukaku looks set to leave Chelsea one way or another soon.
