Chelsea still hold an interest in signing Brighton’s young forward Evan Ferguson, according to reports.

Evan Ferguson, 18, is a rising star now beginning to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

The Irish centre-forward is impressing as a first-team player in Brighton colours, which is why it’s no surprise they’ve moved swiftly to tie down his future at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton confirmed on their official website earlier this week that Ferguson has agreed a new long-term contract that runs until 2028.

However, well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claims potential buyers won’t go away just because of Ferguson’s new deal.

Romano has explained that the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United will continue to monitor the Brighton teenager.

“Clubs were monitoring Ferguson, of course, he’s a super young talent and it’s normal to follow his steps; this will continue not just with Manchester United or Chelsea but with many clubs,” Romano told CaughtOffside.

“But Brighton have been smart and fast, excellent again to extend the contract and keep the player at the club.”

Journalist Ben Jacobs explained to CaughtOffside last month that the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona and Roma have all scouted Ferguson.

He looks a very mature and powerful striker at the age of 18, so you can understand why many fans are tipping him for big things further down the line.

In fairness, Brighton could well offer their young talent European football next season if they finish this campaign well in the next month.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, who described Ferguson as “fantastic” earlier this season, clearly has big faith in him given how much he’s playing him.

As for Chelsea, they could really do with the finished article in the No.9 position next year. The Blues have been searching for a prolific goalscorer for several years now and need one to compete with the very best.
