‘World-class’ striker really did consider signing for Chelsea this summer, Blues reportedly held talks

Erling Haaland did consider joining Chelsea before he moved to Manchester City this summer.

Haaland was the summer transfer window’s big marquee signing, completing a transfer from Borussia Dortmund to the Etihad Stadium.

The left-footed striker scored a phenomenal 86 goals in 89 games for Dortmund. His time in Man City colours has kickstarted with 14 goals in only 10 matches, too.

It’s crazy to think the 22-year-old forward is already one of the best players in the world.

Haaland did consider Chelsea

Interestingly, it’s been confirmed by Haaland’s father, Alfie, that his son did consider Chelsea as his possible next club.

It’s explained by Alfie in a documentary, quoted via The Telegraph, that there was a process they went through to decide the centre-forward’s next club beyond Dortmund.

It was a points-based system that helped decide Man City as the best potential suitors, but Chelsea were mentioned on the final seven club shortlist.

“On our list, I think City is the best team,” Alfie said.

“[Bayern] Munich is number two. We have Real Madrid as number three, Paris Saint-Germain as number four. We also have some English teams other than City who are quite good – Liverpool and Chelsea. Also, there is Barcelona. They are sort of in the same row.”

ESPN previously reported that Chelsea did hold talks with Haaland’s representatives earlier in 2022 to try arrange a transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Unfortunately, he’s now ripping it up in the Premier League with rivals Man City.

Man City won the jackpot

Described as a “world-class player” by Pablo Zabaleta, Haaland is the real deal that is tormenting any defence he comes up against on a football pitch.

It felt like quite a significant transfer race in the summer for his signature, and Man City are now the winners who are benefiting from his outrageous talent.

Let’s see if he can keep up this freakish goalscoring record over the course of an entire season.

Chelsea, along with all the top clubs, must be envious of Man City’s No.9.
