After failing in a bid to sign the Brazilian in the summer of 2018, it appears Barcelona are to renew their interest in Chelsea winger Willian.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo report that the Catalan giants see next summer as the perfect opportunity to finally get their man. Willian’s current contract expires at the end of this season and, with the Blues yet to tie him down to a new deal, interest is beginning to grow.
Chelsea will be hoping that they are able to tie him down to a new deal. Fans have been raving about the 31-year-old’s performances this season. The Brazilian is looking like a new man under the Frank Lampard regime and silencing his critics.
Barcelona made a number of bids for Willian in the summer of 2018, the highest of which was a reported £50 million. Chelsea did not hesitate in turning down these offers but may face losing him in a pre-contract agreement as early as January, for nothing.
Willian is a player who seems to split opinion among Blues fans and fell victim to heavy criticism in what was a difficult campaign for him last time out. In 26 Premier League starts in 18/19, the former Shakhtar man managed just three goals and six assists. These are numbers that disappointed many, but this season, he is well on his to beating last season’s numbers.
Two goals and three assists in just eight starts certainly marks a return to form for the tricky wide player, and if he continues to impress, the Chelsea hierarchy will no doubt put measures in place to leave Barcelona disappointed once again.
