'Invaluable', 'Decisive': French media blown away by WC display from 27-year-old Chelsea reportedly want to sign

French media raved about the World Cup performance yesterday from Juventus star Adrien Rabiot, who’s reportedly a player Chelsea want to sign.

France kickstarted the defence of their World Cup crown on Tuesday with a 4-1 win over Australia.

Despite going behind in the contest, Didier Deschamps’ side bounced back strongly to put down a decent marker in the tournament.

It was a historic night for Olivier Giroud, who scored twice to draw level with Thierry Henry as France’s all-time leading goalscorer. World superstar Kylian Mbappe scored his first goal of this year’s World Cup in a dazzling performance, too.

However, Rabiot is another individual that was diamond in the French XI.

The 27-year-old midfielder scored and assisted in the first-half to lead his side’s comeback.

With Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante both missing this winter due to injury, there’s a lot of pressure on other central midfielders to step up.

Adrien Rabiot performance

France midfielder Rabiot did receive glowing reviews in the media after the Australia result.

GFFN rated his performance a 7/10 in their match player ratings.

Elsewhere, Le10Sport were blown away by an 8.5/10 display from the left-footed midfielder.

Le10Sport wrote: “It was he who put the France team back on the right track. While the Blues had their heads underwater, Rabiot was invaluable scoring the equalizing goal (27th) before delivering an assist for Giroud. Decisive, the Juventus player was also excellent in his work in midfield with many recoveries.”

CalcioMercato claimed last month that Chelsea are keen on signing Rabiot from Juventus.

He’s been in decent form for the Italian giants leading into the World Cup, scoring five goals in 16 appearances so far this season across all competitions.

The fact he can give an extra offensive edge from midfield to the France XI is a real positive, but it remains to be seen if he can shine in the later stages of the tournament against the best opposition.

He’s a quality performer with plenty of experience from his time with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain
