Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on Twitter that Romelu Lukaku has suffered another injury in what is proving an unhappy return to Inter Milan.

The striker is on loan from Chelsea, after making it clear over the summer that he wants to leave the club.

The old ownership were keen to keep hold of Lukaku, however when Todd Boehly got his hands on things he facilitated the Belgian to leave with little financial gain for the Blues.

The return has certainly not gone as well as he would have hoped so far. He has only been on the scoresheet twice in all competitions.

He has still managed to annoy Blues fans in this time though, with him making a point of kissing the Inter badge after his late goal in the Champions League.

However, he is now set for another spell on the sidelines as an injury is set to rule him out of a marquee match in Europe against Bayern Munich.

Romano has confirmed that he expects to be fit for the World Cup, although there will be concern that the injury has come so close to the tournament.

He said: “New muscle injury for Romelu Lukaku – as he’s now gonna miss Champions League game vs Bayern.

“Lukaku, expected to be fit for the World Cup — after second injury in the last two months. He will 100% complete current loan season to Inter from Chelsea.”

The striker will be hoping to nail down a starting place for the Belgium national team, in what is surely one of their last chances with this generation of players to win a big tournament.

He will be under pressure for a start from fellow former Blue Michy Batshuayi, who has always performed for the national team despite a difficult few years as a Chelsea player.
