Chelsea’s youngsters put in a dominant performance yesterday in the FA Youth Cup.
The Chelsea Under-18s side beat non-league opposition Merstham by a 7-1 scoreline at Kingsmeadow on Wednesday evening.
Next, the Blues U18s will face either Preston North End or Manchester United away in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup.
The Chelsea academy is so consistent year on year in producing future stars, so let’s hope some of the current crop of youngsters end up in the first team. It’s encouraging news that Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is a big advocate of the academy.

Chelsea expert describes Shumaira Mheuka as ‘Cole Palmer-esque’
In Chelsea’s eye-catching win over Merstham, Blues youngster Shumaira Mheuka was the star of the show because of his hat-trick.
The 17-year-old striker scored his first after producing a brilliant piece of skill to go around the goalkeeper. Afterwards, he doubled his tally with a thunderous strike into the top corner from outside the box. His hat-trick goal was a composed penalty kick.
Chelsea expert Matt Davies-Adams, who’s a commentator on the club’s official coverage, compared Mheuka’s first goal to something you’d expect to see from first-team star Cole Palmer.
When reacting to Mheuka’s goal via Chelsea’s official coverage, Davies-Adams said: “This was Palmer-esque the way he sat the goalkeeper down.”
Mheuka is definitely beginning to make a name for himself with some seriously impressive displays in academy football. In fact, it even led to him making his first-team debut last month when Enzo Maresca used him as a substitute in the Conference League group stages against Shamrock Rovers.
Scouts believe Chelsea prospect Mheuka is good enough for senior football, so we’re wondering if the teenager could be in line for a first ever loan move in 2025.
Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo called Mheuka a “top talent” after training alongside him. He’s certainly a rising star that everyone needs to keep an eye out for.

Chelsea fans react to Shumaira Mheuka display
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media tuned in and watched Mheuka’s superb performance in the FA Youth Cup in midweek.
One fan wrote: “Shim Mheuka with a Cole Palmer-esque goal vs Luton.” “Shumaira Mheuka is very good. Decided to watch the U18s today. What a goal he just scored,” another added.
One supporter posted: “Absolutely incredible this guy. Cole Palmer-esque.” “Shim Mheuka is special,” another claimed.
Back in the 2023/24 season, Palmer scored a stunning goal against Luton Town where he intelligently rounded the goalkeeper at speed. The Mheuka goal for the U18s last night was oddly similar.
For all of Chelsea’s academy players, their target and goal should be to break into the senior side to play alongside stars such as Palmer.
