Left-back is certainly a position Chelsea will feel like they are pretty strong in at this moment of time.

Ben Chilwell is one of the first names on the teamsheet, and is reportedly now set to sign a new contract to stay at Stamford Bridge.

He has been holding off competition for his favoured position from Marc Cucurella, who was brought in last summer as part of a big spend.

The Spain international has had to usually adapt to a central defensive role since Chilwell has returned to full fitness.

This is without even mentioning Lewis Hall, who had a few starring performances earlier this season.

Despite this ability across the board, the Blues have another player on their books who can star in the left-back role.

Maatsen should stay at Chelsea

Ian Maatsen has been incredibly successful on loan this season at Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, who achieved promotion to the top flight over the weekend.

The Dutchman has played a big role in their successes. He has four goals and six assists this season, proving his attacking capabilities.

This will be an important skill when it comes to potentially breaking through at Stamford Bridge. A lot of the threat in attack comes from wide, particularly wing-backs.

While there may be a temptation to cash in for the Blues due to their reported financial woes, Maatsen has shown more than enough that he can be a valuable asset for the Blues as early as next season.

With a new permanent manager set to be at the club from this summer, it will offer the squad a completely clean slate when it comes to favourites.

Fresh back from a season capped off by promotion to the Premier League, Maatsen can certainly prove he belongs with the Blues.
