Chelsea star Conor Gallagher is well-known for being an incredible grafter who works so hard off the ball.

Well, there’s the statistic to back up what you see on the eye test.

Conor Gallagher, who’s started every Premier League game so far this season, is an important player at Stamford Bridge. In fact, he’s completed 90 minutes in nine of the 11 league matches.

Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino has taken an immediate liking to the 23-year-old box-to-box midfielder.

Chelsea’s running machine

Chelsea fans won’t be surprised to hear that Gallagher’s outrun all of his club teammates so far in the league.

In data displayed by Sky Sports, Gallagher ranks sixth across the entire Premier League for most distance covered so far this season (122.43km).

For context, that puts him ahead of Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Arsenal’s Declan Rice.

The aforementioned duo are two of the elite midfielders in the division right now recognised for the amount of ground they cover, but Gallagher tops both in the running stats.

1) Bruno Fernandes – 126.24km
2) Christian Nørgaard – 126.10km
3) Abdoulaye Doucoure – 125.48km
4) Dejan Kulusevski – 123.73km
5) Vladimír Coufal – 122.53km
6) Conor Gallagher – 122.43km
7) Bruno Guimaraes – 121.92km
8) Dominik Szoboszlai – 121.35km
9) Bryan Mbeumo – 121.25km
10) Philip Billing – 120.30km
11) Declan Rice – 117.99km
12)Jarrod Bowen – 115.95km

Conor Gallagher so important

Our feeling is that Gallagher’s been able to win over the fanbase in recent months with his influential performances.

The England international brings so much to the Blues line-up both offensively and defensively, so it’s great to have him roaming the midfield with his energy and aggression.

Statisticians WhoScored recorded this week that Gallagher has won back possession in the final third this season more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.

We’d love to see Pochettino squeeze in extra attacker to the system to bring more goals, but we can see why dropping Gallagher is a tough dilemma for him. He’s so often the player to get fans off their seats with a big challenge or high pressure on an opponent.
