Chelsea’s official Twitter account now appears to take dig at Mason Mount during last night’s friendly

Chelsea’s American Twitter account last night took a dig at former Blue Mason Mount during the club’s final pre-season friendly with Borussia Dortmund.

They created a post mocking the midfielder’s nickname when he was at Stamford Bridge, however instead handing the honour to youngster Mason Burstow.

Mount’s exit from the club did not go down well with large groups of supporters, who felt disrespected after years of backing him stemming back to his academy days.

The midfielder’s relationship with the ownership in particular deteriorated, and he refused to sign a new contract that would extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old is now playing his football for Manchester United, who have endured a mixed set of pre-season friendlies up to now.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have ended their tour of the USA unbeaten following a 1-1 draw last night with Borussia Dortmund.

They maintained this record after 19-year-old Mason Burstow came off the bench to head home with a minute of normal time to go, after Enzo Fernandez had kept an attack alive.

The young striker has been given a couple of opportunities to impress during pre-season, however struggled with the pace of things in the last friendly against Fulham.

His goal last night brought great joy to the club, although the official USA Twitter account took the opportunity for a clever dig at their former player.

They said: “MONEY Mason Burstow with a crucial header.”

The text was followed by a wink emoji, perhaps confirming that they were intending to send a shot at Mount.

The first meeting between the player and his former team is at Old Trafford, however his return to Stamford Bridge will be really interesting to see in terms of fan reaction.
