'Energetic' Chelsea star says he is ready to 'work hard' for Tuchel and impress in pre-season
Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has had his say on Thomas Tuchel and his plans to secure his spot in the first team during the pre-season.
The 22-year-old is currently in the United States for the Blues’ pre-season tour alongside 29 other players selected by Tuchel, as well as new signings Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.
Gallagher has clearly made a very good case for his inclusion in Tuchel’s plans next season following an impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace.
He registered eight goals and three assists in the Premier League and was eventually named Palace’s player of the season, which is remarkable for an on-loan player.
Ahead of the new season, the midfielder is confident that he is ready to break into the first team.
“He’s brilliant. I think everyone can see what he’s like; very friendly and welcoming,” the England international said about Tuchel on Chelsea’s official YouTube channel.
“I feel like he wants me to be here, and I’m excited to work hard for him and impress in pre-season.”
This is not Gallagher’s first pre-season under the German, however, and he actually already impressed the manager last summer before his eventual loan move to Selhurst Park.
Back in April, Tuchel described the midfielder as a player with “so much energy and work-rate”.
In a recent interview, Gallagher himself confirmed (via Metro) that before the pre-season, he had a conversation with Tuchel about being part of the manager’s squad next season.
So it is safe to say that the former Blues academy player of the season is likely going to stay at Stamford Bridge despite reported transfer interest from several Premier League clubs.
“Massive,” Gallagher responded when asked about how important next season is going to be for his development.
“I’m just going to take it every day as it comes. I’ve got to do well in training and prove myself.
“I’m looking forward to getting to work, to be honest.”
