Fabrizio Romano has provided a positive update this morning on Chelsea’s search for a new manager.

Mauricio Pochettino, 51, is the individual that has been strongly linked in the media with becoming the permanent head coach at Stamford Bridge next season.

Well-respected journalist Romano has now shared that Chelsea are in the “final stages” of appointing Pochettino after positive talks with him in the last 24 hours.

He’s claimed that the process to name him as the next Blues manager is advancing.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Understand talks between Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino are moving forward to the final stages — positive contacts took place in the last 24hours. Nothing signed/done yet — but finally advancing waiting on the next steps.”

Hopefully, Chelsea fans will soon be able to read an official statement from the club that confirms Pochettino’s arrival this summer. Incidentally, it will be third permanent manager at the club during this new ownership.

It feels like the worst kept secret around that the Argentine coach will be in the manager’s dugout at Chelsea next season, but nothing is completed until all the contracts are signed by the parties involved.

Journalist Simon Phillips shared on his Substack this week that Pochettino has now been in talks with Chelsea’s caretaker manager Frank Lampard to discuss the squad.

We are certainly intrigued to see how the group takes shape at the Bridge over the summer.

Lampard has four games left as the interim boss, starting with Nottingham Forest this weekend, before handing the reigns over to the next permanent head coach.

Pochettino needs to walk through the doors for the very first day of pre-season because there’s a lot of work to do with this underperforming group of players. We suspect his mind is already racing with numerous ideas, too.
