‘Listen’: Chelsea player claims he will make sure £40m man plays with him at Stamford Bridge next season

Noni Madueke has made a confident claim about Levi Colwill after the Chelsea duo won the Under-21 European Championships with England.

The latter started against Spain’s Under-21 side on Saturday as a fortuitous strike from Curtis Jones secured victory for England, who managed to progress through the entire tournament without conceding a goal.

That was largely thanks to Levi Colwill‘s outstanding efforts at the back – now, Noni Madueke has made Chelsea fans a promise about the defender.

What’s the story?

Well, there has been plenty of speculation about the 20-year-old after his stunning loan spell at Brighton last season.

According to talkSPORT, the Seagulls are ready to spend a club-record £40m on Colwill, who is keen on regular first-team football next term.

Mauricio Pochettino seems ready to give the England Under-21 international what he wants, as The Times believe the Argentine is a huge fan of Chelsea’s blossoming academy graduate, and is keen for Todd Boehly to offer him a new contract.

Now, Madueke has admitted he will do his part to keep Colwill at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking on camera after England defeated Spain, the 21-year-old said: “Listen, we’re both coming back (to Chelsea). I will make sure he comes back.”

Colwill responded by laughing – his reaction really didn’t give much away as he keeps his cards close to his chest.

Chelsea must make Levi Colwill a key player

In our view, Pochettino would be mad to ignore Colwill next season.

The Southampton-born defender enjoyed an outstanding 2022/23 campaign and also a remarkable tournament at the Under-21 European Championships, where his composure, passing ability and vision stood out.

Left-footed central defenders of Colwill’s talent are hard to find, and Pochettino would be a fool not to have the Chelsea academy graduate in his starting XI at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign.

If the South American cannot offer Colwill that guarantee after his rapid rise in the past 12 months, then he would have every right to force an exit from Stamford Bridge.
