The dismal form reached a new low last weekend when they were defeated 1-0 by Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

The Saints currently sit bottom of the Premier League, however were good value for their victory at the weekend against the Blues.

Defeat seemed to be the end of the road as far as patience with the match-going fans on Saturday, who booed their team off the pitch at the end of the game.

Chelsea have interest in Mourinho

Even some pundits have begun to discuss whether the former Brighton man is the right person to carry out the job required in West London.

Now, La Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that Chelsea have made early inroads into bringing Mourinho back for a third stint at the end of the campaign.

An extraordinary interview a few weeks’ ago saw him make the claim that he would love to return to Stamford Bridge one day and write another chapter in his story there.

Not many could manage Manchester United and Tottenham and still be held in such high regard by Chelsea supporters, although the two-time Champions League winner has certainly achieved this.

It is likely for now as if Potter is going to be given more time, with the owner’s convinced they have found the man they need to turn things around at Stamford Bridge.
