The Raine Group, who are overseeing the sale of Chelsea, could whittle down the shortlist of potential owners to just three by next week.
According to the PA news agency, things could move very quickly once Friday’s deadline has passed for all takeover bids to be submitted.
The report states by early next week it could be down to a shortlist of only three.
Also, it is understood several bidders are still in line to make late offers.
There has been so much speculation about who will win the race for the new ownership at Stamford Bridge, which ultimately will need approval from the government before Roman Abramovich sells.
Todd Boehly’s consortium, which includes Jonathan Goldstein, have been heavily linked throughout the takeover saga.
Elsewhere, Sir Martin Broughton, who’s been joined by Sebastien Coe in his group, is reportedly keen on trying to buy the club.
Some of the other numerous potential investors mentioned are Nick Candy, New York Jets co-owner Woody Johnson, as well as the Saudi Media group.

Chelsea can give new owners silverware
It’ll be brilliant for the new ownership to arrive at the back end of the season with Chelsea competing in cup finals for trophies.
First of all, they travel to Championship side Middlesbrough this weekend in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
It’s a competition where they lost on last year’s final, so can they go one better this season?
In addition, the Blues are still in the Champions League ahead of Friday’s quarter-final draw. They are the reigning champions of Europe that look so at ease on the big stage.
Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is such a rock at Stamford Bridge that’s keeping his players performing during uncertain times.
