£35m Chelsea player failed to take his chance to impress Enzo Maresca despite 4-2 win vs Gent

It was mostly a night of positives for Chelsea as they kickstarted their Conference League group stages with a comprehensive 4-2 win over Gent.

The Blues were by far the better side at Stamford Bridge last night, despite the fact they had made 11 changes from their recent Premier League victory against Brighton.

A number of those who came continued to show Enzo Maresca that they are worthy of a place in his regular side. Pedro Neto in particular impressed Chelsea supporters.

Maresca himself was absolutely delighted when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall opened his account for the club, with him having a difficult time as of now breaking into the Chelsea side.

With all the changes made, Benoit Badiashile was given a rare opportunity to start for Chelsea. Levi Colwill has been a starter in his role in every game so far in the Premier League.

Benoit Badiashile fails to impress vs Gent

It is fair to say that the Frenchman did not really take his chance last night, and actually looked quite shaky as part of a completely changed backline.

Chelsea fans were not impressed when he faced Servette in the qualifiers of this competition earlier this season, and this perhaps has been the reason why he has not featured too much since.

Reports over the summer stated that Chelsea were certainly not turning away from transfer interest in Badiashile, although nothing came to fruition.

Injuries have unfortunately played a big part in his time at Stamford Bridge so far since he moved for £35m nearly two years ago, and he has fallen behind a number of his colleagues in the process.

While Chelsea got off to the perfect start in the Conference League, it is fair to say that Badiashile did not have the impact he would have personally desired.
