Chelsea have had a slow start in comparison to rivals Tottenham to the transfer window, although could be in a great position to actually sign a player from their arch-rivals.
The summer has begun with significant player exits before Xabi Alonso has even walked through the door at Stamford Bridge.
Marc Cucurella has already made his move to Real Madrid, and there is an expectation that Enzo Fernandez will join him there before the end of the month.
CHELSEA’S FIXTURES ARE ANNOUNCED!
Chelsea may now have clear route to sign Lucas Bergvall
There will be frustration amongst supporters, especially when looking at the business already done by or expected to be done by Spurs, despite the fact they were nearly relegated last season.
They have already agreed a fee to sign Jan Paul van Hecke, who was also linked with a move to Chelsea, and are rumoured to be interested in Sandro Tonali.

David Ornstein has also reported that there is an interest in recently-relegated Mateus Fernandes, which would open up questions as to what the future holds for Lucas Bergvall.
It has been claimed that Chelsea are scouting Bergvall at the World Cup, and will have been impressed with the part he played in Sweden’s dominant first win.
With Spurs looking to make major changes to their midfield, the opportunity is there for the Blues to bring in Bergvall this summer and strengthen their own side.
A new midfielder is going to be top of the agenda for Alonso if Fernandez does get his move, and the club should be targeting Premier League experience wherever possible.
How many points are Chelsea taking out of a possible 1️⃣2️⃣?
They have reaped the rewards of the addition of Joao Pedro after his time at Watford and Brighton, and should continue to do the same to help with the transition of featuring for Chelsea.
The Sweden international ranks very highly amongst players in his position for successful dribbles and not being dispossessed, and had his 2025/26 campaign impacted by injuries.
The Blues will be well aware that they will struggle to convince the really big names to join the club this summer, and may have to rely on opportunistic signings.
Reacting to another club’s transfer business would fit that bill, but bringing in Bergvall could end up being a very smart bit of work for Chelsea this summer.
