It has become clear there is one position Chelsea really need to address if they are going to turn things around this season.

The Blues are on an awful run of form in the Premier League, without a win in their last four games as Enzo Maresca suffers his first real problems since coming to Stamford Bridge.

Injuries have begun to stack up amongst the first team squad, with centre-back in particular being impacted.

Both Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are set to be out for a prolonged period of time, with them being the prime candidates to partner Levi Colwill at the back.

Chelsea should hijack Juventus’ move for Ronald Araujo

As a result of this, Chelsea are reportedly actively searching the market for a new option to join in January, and one of those names mentioned is Ronald Araujo.

The Barcelona defender has become one of the top defenders in Europe during his time at the La Liga side. Hansi Flick has described Araujo as a ‘real leader’.

He has returned to the matchday squad in recent weeks after missing the majoirty of this season with a hamstring injury, a problem Chelsea fans are all to aware of right now.

However, the defender has reportedly asked to leave the club, with Juventus leading the charge to bring him in this month.

Chelsea should make a move to hijack the deal to sign the Uruguay international, as they hunt for the perfect partner for Colwill going forwards.

The Blues have held an interest in him during prior transfer windows, reportedly making an offer to sign Araujo before Maresca became the club manager.

Chelsea have seven-man shortlist for new centre-back

Araujo is reportedly one of the names on a seven-man shortlist for a new centre-back, with Chelsea clearly serious about their pursuit of a new option.

Another player they have on that list is Marc Guehi, who has driven interest after becoming captain at Crystal Palace.

Maresca is reportedly a big fan of Guehi, and his credentials look as if they would suit exactly what he is looking for in a defender.

The likes of Antonio Silva and Ousmane Diomande remain on that list, however with Araujo wanting to leave the club there must be an effort made to bring him to Stamford Bridge in January.
