Chelsea supporters would have been happy after the full-time whistle in the club’s game against Southampton on Tuesday.

After two straight defeats, Enzo Maresca‘s men were able to beat Southampton 4-0 and climb back into the top four for a short period of time.

Before the match, though, Chelsea fans were not happy as they protested against the club’s ownership. Since Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali took over, the Blues have not won any major honours, failed to qualify for the Champions League and completely changed their transfer strategy.

These days, Chelsea are mostly signing young players with potential, which is not bearing any fruit. It does not look like they are going to change their policy, though, despite fan unrest. Ahead of the summer transfer window, 18-year-old Ian Subiabre is already being targeted.

Chelsea are interested in signing River Plate youngster Ian Subiabre

Chelsea are not done with the South American market yet as they eye a deal for River Plate’s Subiabre.

The Blues have already signed the likes of Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez, who could be part of Maresca’s first-team squad next season. Paez has already been at Cobham to train.

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea are now interested in signing Subiabre in a potential £20m transfer this summer.

Under its current ownership, the club have also brought in Mathis Amougou, Aaron Anselmino and so many other young players for the future. But with that not helping the team at this very moment in time, fans have become frustrated with recruitment.

It is one reason why some Chelsea supporters were at Stamford Bridge protesting. But the owners and sporting directors clearly do not care as another teenager is targeted.

Marc Guehi could be one of the more experienced players the Blues sign this summer. It has been reported that Chelsea are hoping Guehi’s price tag drops before they make a move for the Crystal Palace defender.

Enzo Maresca won’t be begging for Ian Subiabre

Subiabre’s best position is probably out wide, but that is not an area where Chelsea are light in.

Maresca has Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, Jadon Sancho and Tyrique George, who can all play there. If Mykhailo Mudryk’s suspension is lifted, that is another wide option for the Chelsea manager as well.

Rather, what Maresca will be desperate for is a natural No.9. It has already been claimed that Maresca has constantly brought up Liam Delap’s name in internal meetings at Chelsea.

Ultimately, that is what he needs and is likely to continue asking for, not another unproven talent like Subiabre.
