With 2023 season nearly over, Chelsea players will be able to reflect on a pretty challenging 12 months.
In our view, there’s plenty in the Blues squad that need to massively improve in the next calendar year.
Yes, the fans need an element of patience with their young squad. However, there’s plenty of individuals that can raise their own levels.
The Chelsea Chronicle has named three players who must get better in 2024.

Mykhailo Mudryk
First of all, we’re putting Mykhailo Mudryk’s name forward.
The 22-year-old attacker is a pretty divisive figure with the fanbase, mainly because he often shows so much promise without any substance.
He’s got three goals and four assists in 35 Chelsea appearances since he joined the club, but we’re challenging him to significantly improve those numbers.
Speaking via talkSPORT earlier this month, Gabby Agbonlahor described Mudryk as an “erratic” player that needs extra coaching.
The left-winger’s got to raise his levels to become a permanent feature in the starting line-up, so we’ll throw the gauntlet down for him.
Enzo Fernandez
Enzo Fernandez, 22, is a player capable of reaching dazzling heights. Therefore, it’s reasonable to ask him to raise his levels next year.
The Argentine midfielder is a World Cup winner and immediately slotted in as one of Chelsea’s best players in the first half of 2023. Unfortunately, his form has dropped off in this new season since Mauricio Pochettino joined the club.
Chelsea are going to be in a much stronger spot when Fernandez is pulling the strings in midfield.
Benoit Badiashile
The third and final selection is Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile.
At first, this may seem like a harsh pick. The centre-back’s shown tremendous quality this calendar year when he’s been fit and available. We’re highlighting him because we feel there’s so much he can give to this team, though.
With Thiago Silva turning 40 in 2024, the Blues need some other centre-halves to step up to the plate.
Badiashile’s started to make a few uncharacteristic mistakes since returning from injury in recent weeks, but Chelsea badly need him to get back to his best next year and kick on with his development.
