Some at Chelsea are likely kicking themselves that they did not complete one signing they were strongly linked with during the summer transfer window.
Jhon Duran was a key target for a new striker for the Blues before the season got underway, with them even in discussions over bringing him in as late as deadline day.
While the Blues decided to keep the faith in Nicolas Jackson for the start of the season at least, the Colombian has proven to be the real deal.

Chelsea should push to sign Jhon Duran after learning £71m price tag
He has scored 12 goals in all competitions this season, a figure only matched by Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku from the current Chelsea squad.
| Player | Appearances | Goals |
| Jhon Duran | 26 | 12 |
| Cole Palmer | 22 | 13 |
| Christopher Nkunku | 27 | 12 |
| Nicolas Jackson | 20 | 9 |
Chelsea reportedly still have an interest in signing Duran, and now are aware of the transfer fee they would need to pay to bring him in.
According to journalist Pipe Sierra, Borussia Dortmund found out it would need a fee of around £71m to sign him after enquiring into a deal.
He said: “Borussia Dortmund asked for conditions to sign Jhon Jáder Durán (21) and Aston Villa requested 85M€, a figure for which the German team will not advance.
“The Colombian striker continues to generate interest, but there are few teams that can pay for his services.”
The fee is more than double they paid to sign Jackson two months ago, however if they want to bring in a top-level centre forward then it is the kind of money they are needing to spend.
Chelsea believe Jhon Duran would be the perfect signing for them
Despite not wanting to sign him last summer, Chelsea still think Duran is perfect for their project.
It feels as if they need a different profile to what they already have if they do act in the transfer market, and the Aston Villa man does represent that.
While a lot of Jackson’s good work occurs in the build up to goals, Duran’s game is far more about being clinical with his chances. He is yet to register an assist this season.
It may be better to revisit this one in the summer, however if they want to address their recent goalscoring woes in a serious manner, there wouldn’t be many better options than Duran right now.
