Chelsea must really regret not signing ‘amazing’ 50-goal talisman, he would now cost Todd Boehly over £100m

Chelsea will have a lot of regrets about the 2022 summer transfer window. Overall, it pretty much proved to be a disaster.

While Marc Cucurella will undoubtedly go down as a success now, the likes of Raheem Sterling, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kalidou Koulibaly turned out to be poor signings for Chelsea.

That is not the only reason why Todd Boehly and co will have regrets about how the summer of 2022 went down, though.

Those running the club will look back and think about some of the players that they missed out on. That includes Alexander Isak, who is being linked to Chelsea once again.

Chelsea considered signing Alexander Isak in 2022

Isak joined Newcastle United from Real Sociedad in August 2022. He cost £60m, which looked like a lot of money at the time, but the 25-year-old has been worth every penny.

Isak has been in sensational form this season, scoring 13 goals in 18 Premier League appearances. The campaign before, he netted 21 times in 30 outings. Across all competitions since arriving at St James’ Park, the former Real Sociedad star has scored 50 goals.

All of that could have been Chelsea’s after the Blues identified the Swede as a potential target. According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Chelsea were keen on Isak, but for whatever reason a transfer to Stamford Bridge did not materialise.

All in all, not signing Isak for £60m looks like a huge error on Chelsea’s end, especially with the club still thought to be interested in him.

Why Chelsea are unlikely to get a second chance with Alexander Isak

While the Blues may still be keen on Isak, it is hard to imagine a deal happening.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle now value the Sweden international well above £100m, feeling that he is worth in excess of £150m.

At present, Isak is one of the most dangerous marksmen in the Premier League, perhaps the most dangerous.

“He’s amazing,” his teammate Joelinton was quoted as saying by the Premier League’s official website.

At the above price, though, Chelsea will surely not be signing Isak any time soon. Rather, someone like Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is probably a more realistic option.

Chelsea could move for Delap if Christopher Nkunku leaves west London this month, and that looks a real possibility, given his lack of starts under Enzo Maresca.
