Chelsea simply have to give 21-year-old a chance next season after fantastic loan spell

While Nicolas Jackson has found a bit of form recently, Chelsea have had issues up front this season.

Jackson has scored in recent games against Newcastle United and Brentford but has not always been the best finisher in the current campaign. The 22-year-old has even admitted himself that he should have more goals to his name.

Another problem that Chelsea have encountered is Christopher Nkunku’s inability to stay fit, while the Blues have also loaned out Armando Broja, casting doubt over his long-term future at the club.

When you consider all of the above, then, perhaps David Datro Fofana should be given a chance at Stamford Bridge next season.

David Datro Fofana could be deserving of Chelsea place

Fofana joined Burnley in the January transfer window after a failed loan spell at Union Berlin.

There, the 21-year-old scored just one league goal, but he is faring much better under Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor.

Fofana netted in Burnley’s 2-1 win against Brentford yesterday, which was his fourth goal in eight Premier League games this season, which is a very good return.

The Ivorian’s goal before that was an absolutely sensational strike versus West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Ideally, it would be best for Chelsea to go out and buy a proven centre-forward in the summer, someone like Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, whom they continue to be linked with.

However, if they cannot land the Nigerian or another top striker for whatever reason, then Mauricio Pochettino surely has to consider giving Fofana a proper chance next season at this rate.

All things considered, it probably would be best for Fofana to go out on another loan and continue playing football regularly. There is no guarantee that he will get minutes at Stamford Bridge and being 21, he is still quite raw.

But if Chelsea find themselves struggling in the striker market this summer, then it makes sense to hold on to Fofana if he maintains this form.
