Chelsea could turn out to be the big winners of the summer transfer window if one rumour comes true this week.
There’s been a mixed reaction to Chelsea’s business so far in the transfer window, largely because there’s been loads of incomings and outgoings. The Blues still have until deadline day this Friday to conclude any further transfer deals, too.
It’s clear that several of the new additions are already looking like huge positives at Stamford Bridge. For example, Pedro Neto is extremely lively on the wing, while goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen had a superb debut in Europe last week.
Also, Joao Felix marked his return to Chelsea on a permanent basis with a goal in the 6-2 Premier League win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. Graeme Souness has doubted the Felix transfer in The Daily Mail, but he can be a special player on his day.
Now, Enzo Maresca’s side are linked with a transfer signing that could make it a fantastic window for the club.

Chelsea linked with Ivan Toney this week
The latest transfer rumour on Tuesday is that Chelsea are back in the race to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney in the final few days of the summer window.
Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol reported via X on Tuesday afternoon that Chelsea have moved to try buy Brentford striker Toney. It’s claimed that the 28-year-old star already has an ‘incredible offer’ from Saudi Arabia, but the Blues would give him the option to stay in the Premier League.
It was claimed by The Sun earlier in August that Brentford have dropped Toney’s price tag to £45m as they try to sell him this window. Incidentally, the England international has just one year left on his contract with the Bees.
Ivan Toney transfer would conclude a great summer
While the likes of Manchester United and West Ham have had solid transfer windows, Chelsea could claim to have the best of the lot if they get Toney in through the entrance doors.
The Blues have continued on their path of mainly signing young stars. However, they deserve credit for adding players with a bit more experience in the shape of Neto, Felix and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
There’s still a gaping hole in the No.9 position at Chelsea, albeit Nicolas Jackson is an excellent option to lead the line. The arrival of Toney to the squad would fill that void and suddenly the group would start to look extremely healthy.
Toney’s the type of out-and-out striker that Chelsea have been crying out for. On the eye test, he was made to play for the Blues in attack.
His season last year was disrupted due to suspension, but the 2022/23 campaign when he scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League games for Brentford highlights the kind of forward he is.
