Chelsea will make their worst signing of the Todd Boehly era if they spend £100m on reported target

Since Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali took over Chelsea, the club’s signings have been really hit-or-miss.

There have been successes, such as Cole Palmer, while there have also been quite a few failures at Chelsea.

The likes of Mykhailo Mudryk and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall fall into the latter, and you fear that this current Chelsea regime is still capable of doing much worse as the Blues continue to be linked with several players.

The above includes Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson, who is thought to be of interest to those at Stamford Bridge.

Evan Ferguson could be a really poor deal for Chelsea

It has been reported that Chelsea are interested in signing Ferguson from Brighton in the new year.

At 20 years of age, Ferguson has potential and he has the frame of a Premier League centre-forward despite being so young.

His price tag, though, is a real problem. According to talkSPORT, while Chelsea have a long-term interest in the Republic of Ireland international, Brighton could demand up to £100m for his signature.

Chelsea would have to be crazy to meet that value. After all, this is a very young striker who has scored just one league goal since last December.

Anything over £40m, let alone £100m, and you would probably be looking at the worst bit of business done by Chelsea in the Boehly era so far.

How does Evan Ferguson compare to Liam Delap?

Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is another striker who is thought to be on Chelsea’s radar going into the new year.

Delap and Chelsea will come face-to-face when Enzo Maresca‘s men travel to Portman Road later, with the 21-year-old being someone whom they need to be wary of.

Delap is having a bright campaign, especially compared to Ferguson. He has made more starts, played more minutes and scored more goals than Ferguson in the Premier League.

Ultimately, his development is coming along nicely, while Ferguson’s has stalled a bit over this last year or so. If it is a choice between the two, then Chelsea have to go for Delap.
