An interesting opportunity has just presented itself to Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window.

Chelsea spent the whole summer trying to sign a new striker for their first team but failed to land one in the end.

It has not really hurt them yet, with Nicolas Jackson in red-hot form right now. Former Premier League forward Troy Deeney hailed Jackson’s finish against Leicester as “unbelievable”, with the 23-year-old managing to find the back of the net at the King Power Stadium over the weekend.

But if Chelsea still want to bring in a No.9, then they could have a great opportunity to do so in January.

Chelsea have opportunity to sign Evan Ferguson

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson is a player whom Chelsea are thought to admire.

It has been claimed that Chelsea have been scouting Ferguson this season as they weigh up signing another striker.

At one point, it looked like the 20-year-old would not be going anywhere, with there previously being talk about a £100m price tag.

However, according to The Telegraph, Brighton have now made Ferguson available for loan. A permanent deal does not look impossible either, as the same outlet has claimed that the Seagulls value their forward at £60m.

Evan Ferguson’s stats this season

Ferguson probably does need a move away from Brighton in January. The Republic of Ireland international has only made one start in the Premier League so far under Fabian Hurzeler.

At Chelsea, though, he would likely face the same problem because of Jackson’s form. So while it may make sense for the Blues to bring Ferguson in to boost their numbers up front, it may not be a logical move for him.

Ferguson is certainly a forward with a lot of talent. “His finishing is phenomenal,” James Milner told TNT Sports at the start of the year when discussing his teammate. However, he has not got too many opportunities to show that this season.
