Chelsea are still not expected to do too much business during the January transfer window this month.

Instead, it is likely that they will only address situations that are a necessity, and this could be the case in the defensive areas this summer.

Benoit Badiashile is out for what has been described as a ‘long time’, while Enzo Maresca hinted Wesley Fofana could miss the rest of the season as his injury woes continue.

Fofana himself believes he will return sometime in March, however even that leaves the Blues short for competent options for the time being.

Josh Acheampong made his first Premier League start for the club at centre-back at the weekend, however it is a player who currently plays for their opponents, Crystal Palace, who they are being linked with right now.

Chelsea recalling Trevoh Chalobah would make Todd Boehly seem silly

It has been claimed that they are interested in recalling Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Selhurst Park.

The Englishman has enjoyed a promising spell so far across London, after it looked clear that he would not be in the Blues’ plans for this season.

The decision makers at Stamford Bridge went above and beyond to prove this fact, leaving him off the first team pre-season tour and forcing Chalobah to train with the reserves when they returned.

Todd Boehly and co have been pretty ruthless with their decision making when it comes to both players and staff since taking over the club.

If they made the call to bring Chalobah back from his loan, it would be a real blow to that persona, with them coming back to someone for help that they did their best to get rid of in ugly circumstances.

Chelsea could sign Marc Guehi instead of Chalobah recall

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a number of options when it comes to strengthening themselves at the back, including the potential raid of Chalobah’s current teammate Marc Guehi.

The England international also has experience playing for Chelsea, however left the club in far more normal circumstances for a youth player.

It remains to be seen if that deal could be pulled off in January though, with Palace against his sale and there being 18 months left on his contract.
