Enzo Maresca needs to show more trust in ‘one of the leaders’ in the Chelsea dressing room, results suggest he’s integral

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca must be getting sleepless nights trying to work out a way of fixing his side’s recent slump.

Unfortunately, Chelsea are under some major scrutiny from parts of the media because their form has completely dropped off in 2025. The Blues have dropped to sixth position in the Premier League table and have been dumped out of the FA Cup already this calendar year.

In terms of the league form, Chelsea have two wins in their last nine top-flight matches, which date back to mid-December.

Joe Cole explains Chelsea are desperately struggling from a lack of experience because the Blues squad is made up of young stars tipped for big futures.

Enzo Maresca needs to start trusting Chelsea player a lot more

Enzo Maresca is trying lots of different combinations with his team selection to find a solution, but we think he’s skipped past a potential answer.

It would be great to see Maresca put more faith in Blues defender Tosin Adarabioyo, 27, in the next few games. The centre-half is the sort of composed and experienced profile that can help mentor his younger teammates right now.

Speaking back in September, Maresca singled out Tosin as a leader in Chelsea’s dressing room. The manager said: “Very impressed with him (Tosin), the way he has behaved on and off the pitch. He is one of the leaders in the dressing room.”

It’s during this mini crisis that the team’s crying out for experience and leadership on the pitch.

Tosin is ‘happy’ during his debut season at Chelsea following his arrival on a free transfer last summer. Even though he’s played 21 games across all competitions so far this campaign, we feel Maresca may be underusing him, especially with Wesley Fofana still out through injury.

Recent results suggest Tosin Adarabioyo is integral

Tosin has been in and out of Chelsea’s starting line-up in recent top-flight games as the head coach can’t make his mind up on his preferred central defensive partnership.

It makes for very interesting reading when you look at Tosin’s contribution in the most recent league matches.

The Englishman has helped his side win both times on his previous two league appearances. In contrast, they’ve lost the two occasions he was watching sat on the bench.

As it stands, Maresca is rotating between Tosin, Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah at centre-back.

At his moment in time, Tosin should come back into the XI for an extended period to see if he can bring a stability to a defence that is really struggling to keep opponents quiet.
