Manchester City confirmed Pep Guardiola’s exit a month ago, yet former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has not been appointed as his successor yet.
The expectation is that Maresca will replace Guardiola imminently, but there has been a hold up because of the nature of his departure from Stamford Bridge.
According to The Guardian, Chelsea believe they are entitled to compensation if Maresca joins City after he spoke to them last year despite still being under contract.
The newspaper claims that Chelsea also feel that they have enough evidence to report City to the Premier League for making an illegal approach to the Italian but will not do so.
What are your thoughts on the Enzo Maresca and Man City saga?
Whatever the case, you have to ask whether Maresca is actually worth all this hassle from a City perspective. He is a very good coach, winning the Club World Cup and Conference League trophies during his time in west London, but whether he is a top Premier League manager or will become one can be debated.
His win rate in the English top flight while he was Chelsea manager was not spectacular. As per Transfermarkt, Maresca won 28 games, lost 14 and drew 15, giving him a win rate of just 49.12%.
His admirers at City will point to the flaws of this Chelsea team and how it was assembled and highlight the fact that Maresca’s philosophy is still very similar to Guardiola’s. He worked with the Spaniard at City, which is undoubtedly one reason why he has been identified as his successor.

However, that win rate is still a bit of a concern and perhaps shows Maresca may not actually be worth all of this negotiating with Chelsea over a compensation fee.
If you are an Arsenal supporter, you will be feeling quite confident of winning the title again next season, especially if reinforcements arrive at the Emirates this summer.
It has been reported that Declan Rice is trying to convince Morgan Rogers to join the Gunners in a potential blow to Chelsea.
Chelsea are also keen on Rogers, who was once on City’s books, but seem to be a less likely destination than their London rivals.
