‘Fast’ Chelsea talent has been one of Todd Boehly’s most successful signings, the club would be crazy to sell him

A lot of signings that Chelsea have made under co-owner Todd Boehly have been failures.

There is no denying that additions such as Mykhailo Mudryk, Kalidou Koulibaly and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have flopped at Stamford Bridge.

You can now add Joao Felix to that list, with the forward joining AC Milan on loan during the January transfer window despite the Blues only signing him last summer. Felix now looks set for a permanent exit at the end of the season.

However, not all of Chelsea‘s business has been bad since Boehly and Behdad Eghbali‘s arrival.

Noni Madueke has been a success at Chelsea

It took a while, but Noni Madueke has certainly proven to be one of Chelsea’s better purchases under the club’s current ownership.

Madueke arrived at Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in the 2023 winter transfer window and failed to make much of an impact at first. He finished the 2022/23 Premier League campaign having scored just one goal in 12 appearances.

The following season, it looked like it was going to be more of the same, but Mauricio Pochettino really started to utilise and get the best out of Madueke in the second half of the campaign. The winger ended proceedings with five goals and two assists from 23 outings and has really kicked on from there.

Under Enzo Maresca, Madueke has already surpassed those tallies this term, scoring seven times and assisting on three occasions.

Madueke is now easily one of Chelsea’s most threatening players. According to FBref, the Englishman is taking 7.75 touches in the attacking penalty area per 90 minutes, putting him in the 95th percentile among his positional peers.

Madueke cost Chelsea just £29m and is still only 22. He can get so much better and should not be sold this summer.

Chelsea could sell Noni Madueke this summer

Despite all of the above, it looks like Chelsea are prepared to offload Madueke at the end of the season for the right price.

It has been claimed that Chelsea are open to offers for Madueke, which is a bit of a surprise considering how he has performed this season.

While some at Stamford Bridge may have their doubts about Madueke, the England international has his fans in the game.

“He is exciting, fast, direct, and very versatile,” former Three Lions caretaker boss Lee Carsley told The Athletic and other outlets in 2023.

Perhaps Chelsea feel that they have to make room for Estevao Willian. Whatever the reason, it cannot be justified when there are worse performers, worse attackers, in Maresca’s Chelsea squad.
