Large sections of the Chelsea fanbase would welcome a third stint in charge for Frank Lampard from next season, and he could be tempted more if the Blues bring in Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.

Whatever happens, Frank Lampard will be a Premier League manager next season after securing promotion to the top flight with Coventry City.

Lampard is frequently spotted in the director’s box at Stamford Bridge, and an illustrious playing career will always hold a connection between the two parties.

Frank Lampard could be tempted by Chelsea return if they sign Anthony Gordon

When the Englishman was in charge of Everton, he was on the other side of Chelsea’s aggressive approach in the transfer market when the Blues pushed to sign Anthony Gordon.

Lampard insisted at the time that Gordon was going nowhere due to how important he was to the Toffees, although he would later depart for Newcastle.

Chelsea have again been linked with signing Gordon following question marks being raised over his future, and his previous time working under the Coventry boss could be a factor in Lampard’s stance on another return to Stamford Bridge.

It has been claimed that it will cost up to £80m to secure Gordon’s signature, although Newcastle’s reported need to sell could see that price bumped down.

Lampard has talked down chances of a third stint at Stamford Bridge, however the Blues are expected to hold fire until the end of the season before talking to candidates.

Chelsea need Anthony Gordon

The addition would also go some way to addressing Chelsea’s woeful left-winger situation. Both Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens have failed to impress in their first seasons at the club.

Mykhailo Mudryk is currently appealing a four-year ban handed to him which would currently see him unable to compete again before December 2028.

Chelsea need to stop looking at opportunistic additions such as Garnacho and Jadon Sancho, and instead bring in a Premier League proven player who can instantly lift the quality of the squad.

Gordon fits this bill, and would be a superb signing for Chelsea, and could be the factor which tempts a club legend into another homecoming.
