I saw one Chelsea player put in his worst ever performance in Man City defeat

There were a lot of twos and threes out of 10 from Chelsea in their 3-1 defeat against Manchester City on Saturday.

Enzo Maresca‘s men started the game off strongly, taking the lead after just three minutes after Noni Madueke was able to capitalise on a mistake from Abdukodir Khusanov on his Manchester City debut.

Khusanov was actually linked to Chelsea before his move to Man City, but the Blues recalled Trevoh Chalobah instead of signing a new central defender, though there is still time for them to do so.

Despite a promising start to the match, the visitors were easily beaten by the home side, with their defence really having a day to forget.

Levi Colwill got absolutely dominated by Erling Haaland

Chalobah really impressed against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, but the 25-year-old and centre-back partner Levi Colwill could not cope with Erling Haaland.

Colwill really struggled in general, and his stats at the Etihad show that. For example, the Englishman failed to make a single tackle or interception all game. He also made one error that led to a shot.

Colwill finished the game with a Sofascore rating of 5.7, which was the lowest in the Chelsea team. It was perhaps his worst ever performance, at least in a Chelsea shirt.

The Blues’ loss at the Etihad has now seen them drop out of the top four and into sixth place.

While Champions League football looked nailed on at one point, it would now not be a surprise if Maresca’s men ended up missing out on qualification.

Levi Colwill struggled more than Abdukodir Khusanov

A lot is being said about Khusanov’s debut, but the Uzbekistan international recovered well after the couple of mistakes he made at the beginning of the game.

Khusanov made a crucial block against Jadon Sancho at 1-0. Had that gone in, the final scoreline could have been a very different one.

In general, Colwill had a tougher time as he went up against Haaland, whose all-round centre-forward play was brilliant. The 24-year-old shielded the ball perfectly; Colwill and Chalobah could not get anywhere near him.

Chelsea fans love Colwill. He came through Chelsea’s academy and is a modern-day central defender who can play nice balls into midfield and into the left channel. But what his display at the Etihad showed is that there is still much room for improvement defensively.
