Jadon Sancho is already starting to prove Rio Ferdinand right after Chelsea debut

A lot was said about Jadon Sancho before his move from Manchester United to Chelsea on deadline day.

With Chelsea already possessing several wide options, many people could not understand the club’s interest in Jadon Sancho.

United legend Rio Ferdinand, though, always believed that it was a move that could work out for the winger.

And after the impact he made on his debut against Bournemouth last weekend, that is already proving to be the case. Sancho now probably deserves to start against West Ham on Saturday.

What did Rio Ferdinand say about Jadon Sancho?

Before Raheem Sterling’s switch to Arsenal, it was reported that Chelsea were interested in doing a swap deal with United that would have seen the 29-year-old move to Old Trafford and Sancho head to Stamford Bridge.

Sterling joined Mikel Arteta’s side in the end, but Chelsea still managed to sign Sancho, and Ferdinand tipped him to do well in west London.

“Things haven’t worked out for Raheem Sterling at Chelsea,” Ferdinand said when discussing Sterling and Sancho. “If Sancho goes the other way, I think it works for both.

“I think they need a new chapter written in their careers, and I think it would work for both players.”

Good chance of Jadon Sancho’s Chelsea move working out

If Sancho’s performance against Bournemouth is anything to go by, then it looks like his move to Chelsea will be a success.

He was excellent when he came on in the second half, setting up Christopher Nkunku’s match-winning goal.

According to Sofascore, Sancho made two key passes and completed two dribbles in the 45 minutes he was on the pitch for. The 24-year-old showed so much creativity down the left flank.

Before Sancho joined, maybe it was a bit hard to see where he was going to play. However, with Sterling not at the club for the time being and Mykhailo Mudryk yet to convince Enzo Maresca, that spot on the left really is there for the taking. Last month, Maresca warned Mudryk about his inconsistency.

Considering the above, then, Ferdinand may have been on to something when predicting that Sancho’s move to Chelsea would work out.
