Rio Ferdinand has delivered his verdict on the speculation that Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho could end up at Chelsea before the summer transfer window closes.

There’s a lot of rumours flying around involving Chelsea during the final few days of the window, which officially closes on Friday. For instance, Man United winger Jadon Sancho is linked with a possible move to Stamford Bridge.

The Telegraph claimed that Chelsea are considering making a move to sign Sancho, but the player would need to take a big pay cut to force a move to West London. The same report suggests Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling may end up going in the opposite direction to Old Trafford in a swap deal.

Rio Ferdinand on Jadon Sancho

While speaking on his YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents, Rio Ferdinand suggested that both Chelsea and Man United could be winners if a Sancho-Sterling swap takes place in this window.

Ferdinand said: “Things haven’t worked out for Raheem Sterling at Chelsea. If Sancho goes the other way, I think it works for both. I think they need a new chapter written in their careers, and I think it would work for both players.”

Is there room for Jadon Sancho at Chelsea?

Sancho’s definitely got the versatility to play on either wing or a No.10 position, but it feels like Chelsea are already quite stacked with players in that area of the pitch.

Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku and Pedro Neto are all first-team stars in the Blues squad that can fill the above positions. Therefore, the idea of Sancho leaving Man United to get more regular minutes doesn’t make much sense if Chelsea is his next destination.

Sancho has proven in his career in Borussia Dortmund colours he’s a quality forward, but he’s not been able to replicate the same kind of levels in the Premier League with Man United.

The Blues could be putting head coach Enzo Maresca under necessary pressure if they add a high-profile name like Sancho to the group before Friday’s deadline.
