Mauricio Pochettino will be hopeful that the dramatic EFL Cup win on Tuesday is the catalyst that helps his Chelsea side kick on for the rest of the season.

The win on penalties was huge for a number of reasons, with it putting them just three games away from a  first trophy under both the manager’s and Todd Boehly’s tenure at the club.

Whether it be Mykhailo Mudryk’s big added time goal, or an inspired cameo off the bench for Malo Gusto, it felt like there were positives everywhere you looked at Stamford Bridge.

The biggest boost the crowd got before the goal was the introduction of Christopher Nkunku off the bench, with the Blues beginning to fire on all cylinders again after his introduction.

His first time hitting the net in a Chelsea shirt was emphatic to say the least, with him smashing home his penalty to increase their advantage in the shootout they went on to win.

While he only played about 20 minutes on Tuesday, Pochettino will now be looking ahead to the unfortunately timed fixture against Wolves.

Pochettino has to start Nkunku

The Blues will be taking part in a Premier League game on Christmas Eve for the first time in the best part of 30 years, and will need to be forced to get creative with their team selection amid a heap of injury concerns.

Because of this, it is now time to unleash Nkunku from the start at Molineux, in order to allow him the best possible chance to make an impact on the side when the two teams meet on Sunday.

The 26-year-old has frequently been touted during his injury absence as the missing link to bring everything together in what has looked an extremely disjointed attack at Stamford Bridge so far this season, with goals not always being free-flowing either.
