Following a remarkable debut season last year, Cole Palmer firmly took up the position as Chelsea’s poster boy.
There’s a lot of talented young players in the Chelsea squad, but as it stands, Cole Palmer is head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates.
The attacking playmaker led the way last season with 25 goals and 15 assists across all competitions for the Blues. So far, he’s already scored one goal and created four assists in the opening weeks of this campaign.
Palmer became the first Chelsea player since Cesc Fabregas to register a hat-trick of assists when they won 6-2 at Wolverhampton Wanderers last month. The sky really is the limit for the 22-year-old attacker, who’s under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

Cole Palmer injury
Chelsea were fortunate that Palmer didn’t have any serious injury issues last season. If he does have problems this campaign, it could have a massive impact on the team, but for all the wrong reasons.
The left-footed star has actually withdrawn from the England camp this week due to an injury.
Journalist Simon Phillips reports via Substack on Wednesday morning that Palmer has left England duty because of tightness in his groin. Apparently, there’s still optimism from sources that the Chelsea talisman may be available when the team is next on action against Bournemouth on 14 September.
Statistic shows how much Chelsea need Cole Palmer to stay injury free
FotMob, which records statistical data, has one very eye-opening figure from Chelsea’s 2024/25 campaign so far. Here is a look at chances created by Blues players this season in the Premier League…
- Cole Palmer – 11
- Nicolas Jackson – 4
- Christopher Nkunku – 3
- Pedro Neto – 3
- Enzo Fernandez – 3
- Wesley Fofana – 2
As you can see above, there’s such a huge reliance on Palmer to be the main source of creativity for Maresca’s side.
Yes, it’s a small sample size from the opening three league fixtures, which have resulted in four points. However, it wasn’t too much different last season as well. If Palmer does face any kind of spell on the sidelines, the alarm bells will start to ring for the fanbase.
