Chelsea supporters across the globe will have let out a collective groan this week after hearing the injury news about Cole Palmer.
Blues star Cole Palmer, 22, has started the new season in great form at club level. In fact, he’s already got one goal and four assists from the opening three games in the Premier League.
Unsurprisingly, he was named in Lee Carsley’s England squad for the international fixtures in September and met up with the Three Lions camp. However, England confirmed via X that Palmer has now returned to Chelsea to continue rehabilitation on an ongoing injury problem.
Palmer has featured in all five of Chelsea’s games across all competitions this season, including in Sunday’s 1-1 league draw at home to Crystal Palace. The club’s fanbase will be desperately hoping the injury problem isn’t serious to such a key figure.
Palmer made the Premier League Team of the Month for August, so he’s picking up this season from where he left off last year.

Cole Palmer injury update
Journalist Simon Phillips has now provided an update on Wednesday morning via Substack about Palmer’s injury concern.
He’s heard from sources that the left-footed playmaker has had an issue with his groin area, which led to him withdrawing from the England camp. Apparently, it’s been feeling tight, so the club and player didn’t want to risk it getting worse.
Phillips adds that there’s ‘hope’ Palmer will be available for Chelsea’s next match at home to Bournemouth on 14 September, but he’ll now be assessed back at Cobham during this international break.
Chelsea need to wrap him cotton wool
Palmer plays in a position for Chelsea where they actually have plenty of alternatives. However, he’s the one individual in the squad that everyone will want fit and playing at all costs.
The English star has mainly been used in a central No.10 position so far under Enzo Maresca, which is turning out to be a great move because the attack often goes through him.
If Palmer is to miss any games post-international break, the Blues have several options to replace him. We’d guess either Joao Felix or Christopher Nkunku would be natural replacements to slot into the position just behind central striker Nicolas Jackson.
